THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY
Director: Grace Vroomen
Writer(s): Grace Vroomen
Based on the beloved and infamous classic by Irish writer and icon Oscar Wilde. Young, beautiful and naive Dorian Gray becomes obsessed with his own portrait, painted by his admirer Basil Hallward. The lovely features, however, twist into an accusing scowl and soon that which he tries to mask rears its ugly head. Dorian remains young and appears innocent, but the portrait betrays the inner corruption which is slowly taking possession of him.
The Picture of Dorian Gray is a play about seeing and being seen, and the many masks that we all wear. If someone would paint your best self, would you even recognise it? And your worst? Oscar Wildes continues to spark the imagination and Underground Theatre is under this novels' spell – which is why we decided to adapt and perform this piece.
